Thrifty Thursday – How to Create a Gift Hamper for Less!

This is a brilliant little hack that is perfect for creating a special gift for Mothers Day, birthdays or for Bridesmaid proposals. My Thrifty trick costs just 89p and looks brilliant…

I love making gift hampers but they can be expensive, by the time you’ve bought a basket, cellophane and tissue paper, you’re already looking at £5-£10. One way to get around this added expense is to use a cupcake presentation box! What’s great about this is they can be picked up for less than one pound and they work perfectly!

I had a quick trip to Home Bargains this evening to pick up some last-minute bits and pieces for Mothers Day and they had some really cute floral cupcake boxes for 89p! Whilst there I picked up some white tissue paper for 49p, which is all you need to create a hamper. It’s just a case of buying the contents for your giftbox to suit the recipient; I picked up some really cute items all costing less than £1. I got a candle, a face mask, a bath bomb, an A6 notebook and two milk bottle style drinks bottles with floral designs. There were so many other amazing products perfect for filling a hamper.

What I particularly love about using these cupcake boxes is the fact you can see through the window on the top of the box so you get a peek at the hamper contents. It is important that you put the cupcake tray in to the bottom of the box as this helps the box hold its shape, this will be concealed by the tissue paper so don’t worry about it looking a little odd to start with. Here are a few arrangements I have created…

There boxes are perfect for a variety of occasions and they’re so versatile as you can personalise them however you like. You could add a ribbon around the box, you could put a printed quote or photo in the clear window or you could add a personalised vinyl transfer to the box.

The possibilities are endless when it comes to filling them, especially as the boxes come in lots of different sizes. If you’re not a fan of the floral pattern, you can get plain white ones that would be perfect for wedding gift hampers. I’ve seen a lot of people creating bridesmaids boxes and I think these would be perfect for popping a pair of bridesmaid pyjamas in along with a face mask and a mini bottle of wine.

You don’t have to spend loads on the items for the hamper either, I tend to use items I’ve picked up at Home Bargains, B&M, Poundland and other discount retailers. I also used some chocolates and vodka that I’ve picked up using cashback.
